Making a bolster from three yoga blankets, or other blankets is easy. If you are using Mexican blankets, fold them in quarters so they resemble the three rectangles below. Fold each of these in thirds the long way. Then stack together. Be sure to smooth out any lumps and keep the blankets as uniform on top of each other as you can. The more precise you are with this, the easier time your body will have feeling symmetry in the restorative poses.
This class will give you the chance to both reflect and envision. Modern life is a hurried affair, enter the New Year slowly and intentionally. Let your practice become a sanctuary of slow, conscious movement that is soothing and, yet, very physical. Our muscles are challenged in a very different way when required to support action without any assistance from momentum. Treat yourself to a luxurious and potent morning.
We will explore the power of Sankalpa or “Inspired Intention”. It is not just any intention; it is a vow of heartfelt desire and willful determination. Sankalpa is a statement of guidance from our Highest Self, revealed through listening to our inner wisdom. By allowing us to see clearly what we really seek, Sankalpa empowers the mind to move from intention to realization.
The Yoga Garage is a private space in the Macalaster-Groveland neighborhood. The Yoga Garage allows for five students to practice comfortably. This is a great opportunity to get the attention of a private lesson in a small group setting.

In these slow flow classes we will explore how we can clarify the use of our skeletal alignment as a means to generate and increase power in our poses, resulting in the clarification of our intentions. As is customary for Sarah, we will begin with a Feldenkrais inspired warm up. This way of beginning brings a clarity in our movement awareness, and helps to sense the most efficient and easeful way to move the bones. From there, we will move into a more active yoga practice to further understand how our musculature reorganizes during the poses to maintain this ease and sweetness. This slow process will help one move beyond past habitual movements and learn to cultivate an internal initiation during the asanas, even those that we find most challenging. We will end our class with one of Sarah’s popular guided savasana sessions that will soothe your way into the weekend. Each class will focus on a different theme geared towards adapting our bodies to the current season. All levels are welcome.

Sarah has offered yoga in corporate environments for over six years. Having worked in an office environment herself, Sarah understands the stress and physical demands that our bodies undergo throughout a routine day in the office. Sarah specializes in knowing modifications for all bodies, making classes open and designed for all levels of students from beginner to advanced. Initially, focus is placed on the proper execution of poses and breathing practices, as well as an overall relaxation from the stress of the day. Sarah can offer solutions to skillfully address issues involving neck and shoulder tension, lower back pain, and overall tightness and fatigue in the body.
During the office lunch hour or after work, practitioners meet in a non-competitive setting to unwind and safely build strength and stamina. Company employees enjoy the benefits of a regular yoga practice and greater sense of well-being in a supportive environment. As a result, employers can help boost moral and productivity, turning busy cluttered brains into clear minds. Healthcare costs can be reduced by proactively focusing on wellness and prevention, developing body awareness which can promote weight loss, help smoking cessation and prevent injury.
This is an ideal way to start your yoga practice and learn how to increase strength, flexibility and balance, slow and safely.
Contact Sarah if you are interested in offering a corporate yoga program at your worksite. She will assist with pricing, scheduling and other logistics in order to set up a yoga series that meets your workplace needs.
While group classes can be a source of motivation, a gathering of a community, and exposure to many forms of yoga, there may come a time when we require private care and instruction. Private instruction is great for those newer to yoga, or for one who has experience with group classes but would like to focus on particular challenges or limitations. Your practice will be completely tailored to fit your needs in an open and non-judgemental space. Private sessions are suitable for all ages and abilities as the use of props and modifications are strongly encouraged. Each session is customized to aid the healing of injuries, aches, and pains, or to challenge your strength and learn to safely move deeper into the poses.
Sarah offers private yoga instruction to individual clients and small groups in the comfort of their homes, office, or in her home practice room located near the Minneapolis/St Paul border.
Private instruction may be added to your practice for:
overcoming an injury
looking to achieve fitness goals
build comfort, endurance, and strength in your practice
support in creating your home practice
integrating the meditative practice of yoga into your busy life
Private teaching may take shape in a small group class form such as:
monthly friends yoga class
family reunion classes
prenatal classes or mama and baby classes
Sarah has experience with private clients who have presented muscular issues in their low back, shoulders, hips, disc herniation, anxiety, depression, breathing disorders, cancer, chronic headaches, neuromuscular disorders, traumatic injury recovery, and overall balance and wellness.
All cancellations and rescheduled appointments require 24 hours notice. If adequate notice is not received there will be a charge for the full amount of the appointment.
“I knew the time with Sarah would be supportive, comfortable and I would feel ” at home” and safe.” -Susan Epstein”
Sarah has an unusual ability to make simple adjustments during class or to gently touch the area of the body she wants you to work with to increase awareness. And she gets excited when you make even the smallest change.”- Maribeth
“What I really want to say is that I have learned things about body awareness from you that no other yoga teacher or body practitioner has ever taught me. Now I will have to pay more attention to that on my own, rather than leaning only on you for it, and that is good. Your capacity to turn a micro movement into a profound physical awareness is wonderful. ” – Estelle D.

“I never imagined I would go on a yoga retreat but I am so very glad I went with Sarah to Mexico. Aside from the incredible beauty, sun, warm weather and pounding ocean waves, the special attention we got during yoga classes definitely improved my alignment in the poses and my appreciation for yoga. More retreats in Mexico would be awesome, especially to get out of the MN winter.” – Maribeth Gray, St Paul – retreat participant
“This retreat was a perfect blend of outstanding yoga and heart-felt community spirit, all based in a lovely setting with a back drop of the oceans and exceptional facilities. Sarah’s caring personality and dedication to her craft made me feel welcome and well-centered within minutes of arrival. In class, her calm demeanor and choice of descriptive words helped me settle into all the poses. Her class sequencing demonstrates her awareness of the musculoskeletal system and movement of the body. I know this because she has unique ways of getting my body to access sensations held deep within. Having the opportunity to experience her gifted style of teaching twice a day was delightful!” – Nancy, Boston, MA – 2014 retreat participant
“When I met Maria, the first thing that struck me was her grace. She is truly a soulful person and I could just feel the positive energy radiating from her. I truly believe that Maria is one of the most gifted instructors that I have ever had the pleasure of working with. I only wish I lived closer so that I could continue taking classes with her two times a day. ” – Susan Broderick, Washington D.C. – retreat participant
